He became a member of the hip hop group Hot Boyz, along with members Lil Wayne, B.G., Juvenile and Turk. He left college in 2000 and returned to Florida to sign with the record label Poe Boy Entertainment. After graduating high school, he stepped away from music for a few months to study international business management at the University of Las Vegas, Nevada and at Barry University. Miami-based rapper Fresh Kid Ice was impressed with Flo Rida’s performance in the group and asked him to become a back-up singer at a few of his shows. When he was in ninth grade, he joined a four-person amateur rap group called GroundHoggz.
